Important Notice: Temporary Closure of Research Services

We regret to inform you that our research services will be temporarily closed from October 1st, 2024. This means that we are currently unable to accept inquiries regarding:

Archival research: Including bookings for archival research and questions about the archive's collections in connection with research projects.

Questions regarding the archive's collections: This includes inquiries about specific archives, collection overviews, and the like.

Reason for the temporary closure:

This decision has been made due to an unusually high demand for our services combined with limited staff resources. The increased workload has unfortunately led to extended processing times across all our departments. To be able to prioritize the most urgent tasks, we have therefore chosen to temporarily close the research service.

Expected reopening:

We expect to be able to reopen the research service in the course of 2025, but the exact date will be announced on our website as soon as we have more information.

Other inquiries:

We are still available to answer inquiries regarding other matters, such as access to information requests and processing of public authorities' requests for guidance on the handover of archival material and general questions related to archival material or about the archive. However, due to increased demand and limited staff resources, response times may be longer than usual.

We apologize for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause. We are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and will keep you updated on our progress.

Welcome to Greenland National Archives

Greenland’s National Archive was founded as an independent institution in 1982. In 1991 the archive joined the National Museum, and today is part of the joint organisation Nunatta Katersugaasivia Allagaateqarfialu – Greenland National Museum & Archives.

On this website you can find everything you need to know about the records and documents in our collections, ideas of how they can be used, as well as information about the services available at the archives.

This is also where state authorities and institutions in Greenland can find information about the activities of the archives relevant to them.
