The museum's research has as its main theme the description and exploration of Greenland's cultural heritage and to illuminate the Greenlandic cultural and natural history.

The research carried out at NKA is primarily basic research that aims to preserve, explore and disseminate cultural history and develop the prerequisites for the acquisitions of knowledge for the further development of Inuit and Greenlandic historical consciousness and understanding of cultural heritage.
