Legislation on Sled Dogs and pet ownership in Greenland

Landstingslov No. 18 of October 30, 1998, is legislation designed to ensure a healthy dog and cat population in Greenland, protect the Greenlandic sled dog breed, and safeguard people, animals, and the environment from harm caused by dogs and cats. This comprehensive law applies to all dogs and cats, whether commercial or non-commercial.

Sled dog districts are specifically defined as the area from and including Sisimiut Municipality, Kangerlussuaq, and northwards to and including Qaanaaq Municipality, Greenland Northeast National Park, Ittoqqortoormiit Municipality, and Ammassallip Municipality.

This provision may also include more precisely defined areas bordering these districts as sled dog districts.
